About the Founder

“The worst you can do is fail. The best you can do is your best!”

- Courtney Meekins

School was a playground for me. I explored every aspect of it from reading, math, state tests, gift and talented classes, regular classes, failures, successes…the list could go on. While it was a playground for me, it was a timeout bench for other students. I saw a lot of students not getting the same excitement I had especially when it was pertaining to a math class. Most of my favorite teachers were math teachers because they had a way with making math class FUN! This catapulted my educational career and gave me the confidence to be as successful as I wanted to be. It also taught me to never give up and help others who are less confident.

Where did that lead me? To being an advocate for mathematics education. I tutored my peers all four years of my undergraduate time in college while obtaining my B.S. in Chemistry from Prairie View A&M University. I then moved into a Math Fellow position at a high school in my neighborhood, in Houston, TX. There I began teaching and tutoring ninth grade scholars mathematical foundations and Algebra 1. I saw the impact that extra instructional help had on their educational success and just knew I wanted to do more. I moved to San Antonio, TX to pursue my master’s degree in Educational Leadership. While being a full-time substitute teacher, I just knew I could be doing more. This decision was a bold one. I became a middle school math teacher to eighth graders advancing them in the subject of Algebra 1. The joy I received daily , seeing my students go from limited understanding throughout a lesson to confidently speaking to their peers about what they have learned and mastered was an unmatched feeling.

I knew I had purpose in this field. I worked in this role for 6 years and the desire to give back to the community and impact other students/clients arose. Now I am here, as the founder of ‘Mind Your Mathness’ Tutoring Services, ready to meet the need of those who desire extra support.
